My mother first purchased her after my brother had insisted we get a dog. My mom had spent a few weeks deciding and finally went to go pick one out. She stumbled across a litter of new born puppies in a pet shop, one by one, whenever my mom returned to the store, another puppy had been sold off, even the mother. By the very last day my mom returned, there was only one puppy left. She bought her. It was just a few months after I was born. As Punkin grew up, she would lay under my crib and sit in my high chair and practically stay by my mother’s or my side. She was a member of our family. As the years went on both her and I grew older. One thing about a dog’s love is that it’s unconditional. She would follow me around and sit or lay beside me. She made me feel better if I was in a bad or upset mood. She grew on me. She grew on all of us. </p> <p>Today, my mother had her put down. She was declining in health and could barely see or walk. I new the day was coming, but I kept convincing mom to push it back.        When I heard she was put down earlier, I didn’t react. My parents had told me not to cry over and over, because they new it would happen. But I’m only human and so are they. I can only imagine my mom’s face sitting in the room when Punkin’s heart stopped. She was there from the beginning, unfortunately I could only be there in spirit. I miss you, Punkin. You were my first pet. I love you, and I’ll never forget what a great member of our family you were. You made us happy.
